- Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Skills
Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Training, the Hon. Karen Andrews has teamed up with host of The Block, Scott Cam, to showcase the importance and value of Australian Apprenticeships.
‘Scotty’ Cam is not only host of the hit TV show, he is also an active Australian Apprenticeships Ambassador in his free time. He and Minister Andrews agreed on the long-term rewards and career opportunities offered by apprenticeships and on-the-job training.
“Having a sneak peek at all the hard work that goes into The Block renovations highlights the amazing things that can be accomplished by skilled tradies and the enthusiasm of creative minds,” Minister Andrews said.
“Apprenticeships are a great option for people. They offer terrific opportunities for careers and employment across a huge range of industries throughout Australia.”
Scotty said: “My apprenticeship was one of the best things I ever did. It gave me time to learn on-the-job, and there’s no better way of learning than just getting stuck into it.”

The Turnbull Government provides almost $190 million each year to support potential apprentices, Australian Apprentices and their employers with tailored assistance, helping to make sure apprenticeships are successful.
The new Apprenticeship Network, which commenced on 1 July 2015, delivers services from around 400 locations nationwide and has already helped 419,000 employers, apprentices and potential apprentices.
The Government is also assisting employers through the provision of financial incentives with almost $400 million available this financial year.
“With over 84 per cent of Australian Apprentices gaining employment after completing training, it’s clear that apprenticeships provide real skills, real jobs, and real careers,” Minister Andrews said.
