The Morrison Government has taken action against dodgy child care providers trying to rip off hard-working Aussie families.

Twelve providers were penalised for Child Care Subsidy irregularities during the June quarter.

The Morrison Government has placed 372 providers on the Child Care Enforcement Register since January 2018, including 54 over the past 12 months.

Minister for Education Dan Tehan said the Government would continue to take tough action against those intent on ripping off taxpayers.

"The Morrison Government has saved taxpayers $3 billion by cracking down on dodgy providers trying to fraudulently claim the Child Care Subsidy," Mr Tehan said.

"We take compliance very seriously, and won’t tolerate providers who rort the child care system.

"The Department of Education works with other agencies and law enforcement to co-ordinate our response to providers that break the law."

In May, police arrested 18 people over an alleged Child Care Subsidy scam claiming $3.8 million a year as part of a joint operation called Strike Force Mercury.

Since January 2014, 71 people have been charged with criminal offences related to child care fraud and 22 have been found guilty of offences.

The Child Care Enforcement Action Register is available at https://www.education.gov.au/child-care-enforcement-action-register.
