The Morrison Government is providing $4.2 million to conduct research to benefit Australians, leading to new jobs and improved health outcomes.
Minister for Education Dan Tehan today announced $4.2 million in funding for 11 new research collaborations supported by funding through the Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage Projects scheme.
The funded projects include:
- $439,588 to improve the effectiveness of probiotics by developing a targeted delivery system to the colon, boosting understanding of the factors affecting viability and effects of gut microbiota (The University of Sydney).
- $277,600 to investigate the experiences of people waiting for social housing to inform policy development (University of Technology Sydney).
- $356,435 to create a digital model of the Surat Basin using new geological data and geostatistics. This new modelling methodology will have applications for industry and government in the management of gas and water resources (University of Queensland).
“The research done by our universities can lead to the development of new products and innovations that drive job growth, business opportunities and productivity gains,” Mr Tehan said.
“Our Government is investing in partnerships between universities, industry and government to drive the commercialisation of research. We are funding universities to get better at commercialising our research; better at turning ideas into jobs, productivity gains and growth. We are encouraging greater collaboration between universities and businesses to improve how we make students workforce ready.”
