- Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Skills
Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Skills Karen Andrews MP will tonight urge all communities to support next week’s National Skills Week.
Speaking at the launch of National Skills Week, Minister Andrews said the week showcases the vital contribution vocational education and skills makes to Australia.
“Last year more than 4.5 million Australians participated in vocational education and training (VET), which helps individuals develop skills for employment, strengthens local communities, and helps grow the economy,” Minister Andrews said.
“A strong, diverse VET system is critical to ensuring a prosperous future for Australia, and National Skills Week celebrates the significance and achievements of our VET system.
“During National Skills Week there will be open days, information sessions and other activities highlighting training and career opportunities put on by TAFEs, employers and other training providers across Australia.
“The week helps inform students and parents, employees and employers, and the general public about the diversity, talent and strength of our vocational education and training sector.
“That’s why we need to continue to focus on quality in VET, stamp out bad practices, and promote the important role Australia’s apprenticeship system plays in communities throughout Australia.”
Minister Andrews said the Turnbull Government is committed to a high quality VET system that ensures students are trained to meet the skills demands of today with skills for real jobs.
“We also need to position our VET system to respond to changing technology and work with employers to ensure we continue to meet the evolving skills needs of business and industry.”
National Skills Week runs from Monday 29 August to Sunday 4 September. For more information, visit: http://www.nationalskillsweek.com.au/
