- Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Skills
Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Skills, Karen Andrews, today joined the vocational education and training sector’s highest achievers to announce the finalists in the 2016 Australian Training Awards.
Showcasing the national training system, the Australian Training Awards reward and recognise individuals, employers and registered training organisations demonstrating excellence in vocational education and training.
At the Australian Apprenticeships roundtable discussion, Minister Andrews said the Australian Government was proud to support the awards and the contribution of students, businesses and registered training organisations to skilling Australia.
“The achievements of these finalists highlight the many rewarding careers and opportunities that our high quality vocational education and training system offers,” Minister Andrews said.
“It’s also great to share the occasion with a group of people who are committed to raising the status of apprenticeships, some of whom are previous award nominees and recipients.
Minister Andrews said, being a finalist is a tremendous achievement and each nominee – whether they are a student or an apprentice, an employer or a training provider – has shown personal drive and dedication to get to the finals.
“Congratulations to each of you on your nomination, and thank you for the fantastic contribution you are making to your community — bringing your skills and enthusiasm to local workplaces.
“While we are recognising our highest achievers, there are thousands of success stories every year through our vocational education sector as Australians gain the skills industry is looking for to secure the jobs of the future,” Minister Andrews said.
Speaking with apprentices today, the Minister heard about the rewarding careers available in the VET sector and the range of pathways to get there.
“There really is a huge amount of choice for people looking for a career in the VET sector and I look forward to hearing from each of the finalists about their journey at the 2016 Australian Training Awards in Darwin.
