Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Skills, Karen Andrews today announced the establishment of Australia’s first Vocational Education and Training (VET) Alumni Program.

Speaking at the 2016 Australian Training Awards (ATA) in Darwin, Minister Andrews said the new program would bring together the best of Australia’s VET students, training providers, teachers and employers to promote the vital VET sector.

“The VET Alumni is about those who are passionate about vocational education and training and promoting the options and benefits that it provides,” Minister Andrews said.

“Alumni members will have the opportunity to contribute to policy discussions, mentoring activities and to share personal stories and achievements through vocational education.”

Minister Andrews said the strong field of finalists at the ATA awards showed what can be achieved with vocational education and training.

“My congratulations in particular to Lifetime Achievement Award winner Douglas Wright AM for his enormous contribution to VET and to National Achievement Award winner Denise Stevens for her dedication and innovation within the sector,” Minister Andrews said.

“Tonight I am delighted to announce we are opening opportunities for all those who represent excellence in VET through the establishment of our alumni program.

“It will start with tonight’s finalists but that is just the beginning. Invitations will also be extended to previous award winners and beyond over the coming weeks.”
