Commonwealth, states and territories share goals to take vocational education forward

Commonwealth, state, and territory Skills Ministers met in Darwin today to discuss the way forward for vocational education and training (VET).

The Hon Karen Andrews MP, Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Skills, chaired the meeting of skills ministers, (COAG) Industry Skills Council.

“We held productive and worthwhile discussions and developed a set of clear actions to be taken,” Minister Andrews said.

“Commonwealth senior officials have been tasked to discuss with state counterparts key priorities in skills reform and report back to me.

“We will continue to work together in the best interests of training that is targeted to employment and jobs of the future,” Minister Andrews said.

“I was greatly encouraged by the willingness to work productively in the interests of all Australians.”

“I am confident we will continue to pursue our shared objective of having a VET sector that delivers quality training, and improves outcomes for students, employers and the economy.”
