The Australian Government today called for tenders to improve the delivery of language, literacy and numeracy services for adult migrants and those job seekers who face language, literacy and numeracy barriers to securing a job.

Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Skills, the Hon Karen Andrews said the tender, for the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) and Skills for Education and Employment Program (SEE), would lead to more flexible ways of delivering vital literacy and numeracy learning programs.

“From July 2017 the revised business model for AMEP will give new migrants more support to develop the essential English language skills they need to get work or further training and thrive in Australia,” she said.

“The changes to SEE will assist Australian job seekers through a more flexible model of training.”

Minister Andrews said developing more flexible business models for both programs will create opportunities for innovation in the delivery of language, literacy and numeracy services, attract more participants and achieve better outcomes.

“This not only benefits participants and their families, but leads to long term gains for local communities throughout Australia and the economy generally.”

Through the tender the Government is seeking innovative ways to improve participation and retention rates in both AMEP and SEE, and to improve outcomes for clients through demonstrated improvements in core skills.

Information on the AMEP and SEE programs and tender process is available from the AusTender website.
